О проекте
Background
An open design studio in Wuhan completed an interior refurbishment in 2025. The space measures approximately 320 square metres and uses long continuous rows of workstations, with drafting desks arranged in lines and side tables for physical models. The team's daily work involves hand sketching, screen-based drawing and model comparison, which places high demands on desk organisation and cable tidiness.
Requirements and challenges
- Floor cabling in long continuous rows is difficult to control. Exposed power and data cables would obstruct movement and clash with the visual tone of a design studio.
- Drafting surfaces must accommodate both hand drawing and monitor placement. Desk depth and load-bearing stability need to support prolonged work and equipment without noticeable wobble.
- Task chairs must match desk height and movement range. When turning between workstations to retrieve models, armrests or backrests must not interfere with movement.
Specification and solution
- Selected clean-lined office desks with integrated metal cable trays beneath the worktop. Power and data cables run separately to avoid floor-level routing, with grommets positioned at row junctions.
- Two desktop depths specified by workstation function. Drafting areas use deeper tops; side tables use standard depth. This allows full hand-drawing spread while keeping aisle widths workable.
- Matching task chairs from the same series, with height adjustment and no flip-up armrests. This allows sideways movement between drafting desks and side tables with minimal obstruction.
Delivery and outcome
- 22 office desks and matching task chairs delivered and installed. Long-row workstations were aligned in a single pass, with no on-site secondary drilling required.
- Desktop cable trays reached approximately 85% capacity. Monitor, CPU and task lamp cables are fully contained, with no visible floor-level cabling.
- Static load testing conducted at 1.5 times daily-use load for 24 hours. No visible deformation occurred; height deviation at row joints was kept within 1 millimetre.
Client feedback: The team moved in on the day installation finished. Cable runs are clean, desks are stable during drawing work, and the chairs move freely between workstations.
