Resumo do projeto
Background
A whitewashed beach club in Santorini, Greece renovated its terrace in spring 2018. The terrace faces the Aegean Sea and follows a blue-and-white palette, with timber decking throughout. Outdoor lounge furniture was required for daytime sunbathing and evening drinks service. The project selected 7 stock inflatable furniture models, including lounge chairs and poufs, coordinated with the blue-and-white setting.
Requirements and challenges
- Weather resistance and UV stability: With strong Aegean sun and salt spray, the fabric had to pass 72 hours of continuous UV ageing testing with colour fastness of grade 4 or above, to avoid fading or embrittlement.
- Slip resistance and stability: The timber deck becomes damp and slippery near the sea. Furniture bases required anti-slip construction, with total daily displacement after inflation limited to 5 cm, to prevent guests slipping when standing up.
- Quick pack-down and maintenance: The terrace is cleaned daily. Each item, when deflated and folded, had to be no more than 18 cm thick. Surface stains had to be removable with a neutral detergent without affecting next-day operations.
Specification and solution
- Fabric selection: All 7 models use 0.55 mm PVC-coated mesh fabric with a UV-resistant surface coating. The white base matches the terrace walls, while blue piping echoes the Aegean setting.
- Structural configuration: Lounge chairs use a dual-chamber design with a separate anti-slip base air cushion. Poufs use a cylindrical low-centre-of-gravity form. Each item weighs at least 3.2 kg when inflated, with wind resistance to force 6.
- Inflation method: A 12 V low-pressure pump is supplied. Each item inflates in under 4 minutes. Deflated and folded dimensions fit the club's existing storage lockers without requiring additional storage space.
Delivery and outcome
- Delivery: On-site inflation and placement was completed without affecting the club's scheduled opening.
- Quantity allocation: The terrace received 6 lounge chairs and 8 poufs, covering 5 main models from the 7 stock SKUs, plus 2 additional size variants as supplementary pieces.
- Performance in use: In the first month of operation, the terrace area served over 800 guests. No fabric splitting, air chamber leakage or anti-slip failure was reported. Individual items required reinflation no more than once per day on average.
Client feedback: The white inflatable furniture works well against the blue domes and white walls. Guests found it more stable than expected, and cleaning is quick, which matters during peak season when the terrace is maintained daily.
