Resumo do projeto

Background

This is a contemporary tapas restaurant in central Barcelona with terracotta tile flooring and warm pendant lighting that creates a low-light dining atmosphere. In early 2024, following a refurbishment, the owner needed to replace the dining area furniture. The brief called for pieces that would sit comfortably with the existing materials while supporting table turnover during peak service.

Requirements and challenges

  • Compact footprint and circulation: Each table footprint had to stay within 700×700 mm, and chair backs could not extend far beyond the tabletop profile, so that staff and guests could move without obstruction.
  • Stain resistance and easy cleaning: Tapas sauces and drinks are frequently spilled, so table and seat surfaces needed to resist staining. High-gloss coatings that show water marks were ruled out.
  • Visual consistency without drawing attention: The furniture had to work with terracotta floors and warm lighting. Black metal components required a matte finish to avoid glare under the pendant lights.
  • Structural strength and stability: The floor is hard terracotta with no fixed floor sockets. Tables and chairs had to remain stable under frequent movement and avoid scratching the floor, relying on self-weight and foot design alone.

Specification and solution

  • Compact tables with warm wood veneer: Selected 600×600 mm square tables with warm wood-toned high-pressure laminate tops and rounded edges, sized for sharing small plates without overwhelming the table.
  • Matte black metal frames: Table legs and chair frames used 25×25 mm square tube with matte black powder coating, fitted with adjustable nylon glides to prevent slipping and protect the terracotta floor.
  • Chairs matched to the spatial scale: Armless dining chairs with a 450 mm seat height and 820 mm back height. Seat panels used the same wear-resistant wood-look board, keeping the visual set consistent with the tables.

Delivery and outcome

  • Quantity and configuration: Delivered 26 square tables and 104 dining chairs, arranged in two-seat and four-seat combinations, with 6 spare sets stored in the back area.
  • On-site verification: After installation, the furniture was tested during peak hours over 7 consecutive days. No loosening or glides displacement was observed, and the tabletops passed stain-resistance checks under the standard daily cleaning routine.

Client feedback: The dimensions are just right, the walkways feel noticeably wider, there is no glare under the evening lights, and wiping down the tables takes much less effort than before.
