Resumo do projeto
Background
A boutique cafe on an Amsterdam canal underwent renovation in spring 2023. The space features tall windows, pale brick walls and numerous potted plants, with small round tables throughout. The owner required a set of style-matched, compact dining chairs to replace the existing seating for daily coffee service and light meals.
Requirements and challenges
- Tight footprint: The small round tables measure only 60 cm in diameter. The chairs' outer edges could not protrude beyond the table footprint, or aisle access and guest movement would be compromised.
- Floor protection: The cafe has an older timber floor. Chair leg bases needed to avoid direct hard-metal contact to prevent scratching and noise.
- Consistent styling: The owner specified a mid-century look. The curve of the bentwood legs needed to echo the arched lines of the tall windows; straight-leg alternatives were not acceptable.
Specification and solution
- Arcuate bentwood leg chair: We supplied the standard model from our in-stock arcuate leg chair series. The seat is moulded plywood, and the legs are formed from laminated beech bent to a radius close to that of the window arches.
- Nylon foot glides: All leg bases were fitted with recessed nylon glides, replacing the default foot pins, to reduce friction noise on the timber floor and prevent drag marks from frequent movement.
- Compact seat width: The seat width at its widest point is 42 cm, and the maximum overall chair width does not exceed 46 cm, ensuring the chairs slide fully under the small round tables.
Delivery and outcome
- Quantity: 36 chairs were delivered in total.
- Acceptance criteria: 8 chairs were spot-checked with seated load and lateral push tests. No looseness was found at the leg joints, and the glides' static friction coefficient met the requirements for the cafe's timber floor.
- After-sales performance: Within 30 days of delivery, no chair developed structural creaking or finish cracking. The owner confirmed no replenishment or repair was needed.
Client feedback: The chairs tuck under the small round tables exactly as needed, guests can stand without scraping the floor, and the curve matches the windows well. After several months of use, no issues have arisen.
