Background

A secondary school in Hefei completed renovation of its multi-purpose hall in 2023. The hall has a polished floor and a fixed stage at one end. Used for assemblies, lectures and performances, it required a flexible seating solution that would support orderly row seating during events and allow rapid clearing and storage afterwards.

Requirements and challenges

Floor protection requirements: The polished floor is prone to scratching, so chair foot material and contact area had to be specifically matched to avoid marks during movement.
Storage constraints: The hall has no separate furniture storage room. Stacked chairs would need to be stored against the wall, placing clear limits on stack height and stability.
Row alignment standards: The school required rows to be straight and evenly aligned when set out. Seat width and backrest height therefore had to be uniform to allow quick alignment.

Specification and solution

Selected 3 stackable school chair models from the current range: Chairs were zoned by area — main viewing section, front access aisle and side supplementary positions — with seat width and backrest height held to a uniform specification.
Soft anti-slip edging on chair feet: Increased floor contact area to reduce pressure on the polished surface and prevent scratching during push-pull movement.
Calibrated stacking lugs: Stacking slots on each chair were trimmed to a single mould standard. At 8 chairs per stack, the centre of gravity remains vertical, with no leaning when stored against the wall.

Delivery and outcome

216 chairs delivered in total: Arrived in 3 batches, with on-site placement and stacking tests completed.
Stable single-column stacking: An 8-chair stack measures approximately 1.2 m in height, remains upright when stored against the wall, and clearing time was reduced to around 6 minutes.
No visible floor marks: A follow-up visit after two weeks of continuous use found no scratches or indentations on the polished floor caused by chair feet.

Client feedback: The chairs line up neatly and clear away quickly. The floor still shows no marks so far — no hassle at all.
