プロジェクト概要
Background
A private kindergarten in Wenzhou refurbished its activity room during the 2017 summer break. The floor was fitted with soft vinyl sheet, and the overall layout used low-height furniture. The school needed tables and chairs for approximately 30 middle-class children for daily craft work, drawing and group activities, with delivery required before the start of term.
Requirements and challenges
- Small batch, non-standard dimensions: The activity room was limited in area, and standard kindergarten tables and chairs were too large. All items had to be recalculated around a 460 mm seat height and corresponding table height, with a total quantity of only 17 sets.
- Rounded-edge safety requirement: The school specified that all accessible edges and corners must be rounded. No right angles or sharp edges were permitted, to prevent injuries during running and play.
- Colour coordination with the floor: The soft vinyl flooring was a light wood-grain finish. The tables and chairs were required in high-saturation red, yellow and blue, and the colour pigment had to resist migration or fading in use.
Specification and solution
- One-piece PP injection-moulded chairs: The chairs were injection-moulded in one piece from PP. The seat and backrest connection was reinforced with ribs, and anti-slip pads were fitted to the bottom of all four legs to prevent sliding on the soft vinyl floor.
- Rounded tabletop edging: Tabletop panels used an 18 mm MDF substrate with R20 rounded corners. The edge banding matched the panel colour, with no noticeable height difference at the seams.
- Pre-mixed colour pigment: The red, yellow and blue finishes were achieved with injection-grade colour masterbatch pre-mixed into the material, rather than surface painting, to avoid colour loss from chewing or scratching.
Delivery and outcome
- Quantity delivered: 8 children's tables and 9 children's chairs were supplied, totalling 17 sets. Each table was paired with 4 chairs, with 1 additional chair kept as a spare.
- Test results: 72 hours after installation, an indoor air test commissioned by the school recorded a formaldehyde level of 0.04 mg per cubic metre, below the 0.08 limit.
Client feedback: The heights are suitable for the children, the chairs have not scratched the floor when moved, and the colours have shown no fading after two months.
