Background
A modern product photography studio in Los Angeles launched an infant product series shoot in early 2016, using a clean seamless white backdrop and even lighting setup. The client required a set of baby bouncers with consistent styling and clearly defined fabric texture to serve as the primary subjects for e-commerce pages and catalogue assets.
Requirements and challenges
- Strict colour consistency: Three neutral fabric tones — light grey, oatmeal, and off-white — needed to hold consistent colour temperature under strobe lighting to minimise post-production colour correction.
- No visible frame: The bouncer frame had to be fully concealed within the upholstery, with no metal or plastic components exposed in front or side shots.
- Tight delivery window: The shoot schedule was already locked. Only three weeks were available from sample confirmation to full delivery; any delay would disrupt the entire production timeline.
Specification and solution
- One unit from each of four standard models: Based on the client's product line display logic, we selected four regular models with different seat depths and backrest angles. No additional tooling was required.
- Pre-shrunk and colour-fixed fabric: Neutral-toned fabrics underwent pre-shrinking and anti-pilling treatment to reduce creasing after transit and cut down on ironing work before shooting.
- Non-slip, silent base: Silicone anti-slip pads were fitted to the base to prevent movement during shoots while eliminating plastic friction noise that could interfere with audio recording.
Delivery and outcome
- Four bouncers delivered on schedule: No penalty clause triggered.
- 100% pass rate on colour spot checks: The client compared each unit against Pantone references under standard lighting. None required return or re-colouring.
- No frame exposure across continuous shooting: Approximately 160 effective camera positions were completed with no frame visibility or abnormal fabric reflection.
Client feedback: Colours held up well, the frame stayed hidden, and there was no rework during the shoot. The whole set passed in one go.
