Background
A chain esports hotel in Hangzhou carried out an esports-oriented refurbishment of multiple guest rooms in 2017, focusing on themed room types with multiple gaming stations and accent lighting. The operator needed to arrange several workstations within limited floor areas while addressing desktop stability, cable management, and the ease of daily housekeeping and maintenance. The project covered the coordinated placement of gaming desks and matching gaming chairs.
Requirements and challenges
- Compact multi-station layout: Room types needed to accommodate two to three gaming positions. Desk widths and cable outlet positions could not encroach on floor circulation space, otherwise housekeeping trolleys would be obstructed.
- Centralised cable containment: Each station involved multiple cable groups from monitors, PC towers and peripherals. The desk underside required an enclosed or semi-enclosed cable channel to prevent exposed, tangled wiring.
- Compatibility with accent lighting: Guest rooms featured cool-toned LED strip lighting. Desk surfaces and frame finishes could not be overly reflective or visually clash with the lighting, so matte dark finishes were specified.
Specification and solution
- Double-station desk as the primary model: From our 8 in-stock gaming desk models, 1 double-station long desk was selected, accommodating two full setups per row. The quantity per room was configured as either a two-station or three-station combination depending on room type.
- Integrated cable tray structure: A metal cable rack and removable back panel were fixed beneath the desktop. All cabling was routed through the under-desk channel, with power strips mounted to the underside of the desktop and kept out of sight.
- Matching gaming chairs from the same series: Each station was paired with 1 dark-finished gaming chair with breathable PU upholstery. Desk height and chair armrest height were coordinated to prevent armrests from catching on the desk edge during use.
Delivery and outcome
- 22 workstations delivered in total: 18 double-station desk layouts and 4 single-station supplementary rooms, all fitted with cable management components and corresponding gaming chairs.
- Installation completed in two phases: Desk frames and cable racks were installed first, followed by wiring and power-on testing. Normal operations on other hotel floors were not affected.
- Maintenance time reduced by approximately 60%: After testing by housekeeping and IT staff, the operator reported that servicing a single station's cabling or replacing peripherals no longer required crawling under the desk to trace individual wires.
Client feedback: Previously, re-organising cables after guest checkout was the most time-consuming task. Now the cables are contained in the channel, and wiping down desks or swapping equipment is much faster.
