Background
A large newly built canteen at a university in Zhengzhou began interior furnishing in 2024. The dining area has a ceiling height of over 6 metres and uses long continuous rows, with a single section able to seat several hundred diners at once. The university required table and bench selection, production and on-site installation to be completed within the summer break so the canteen could open for the autumn semester.
Requirements and challenges
- High-frequency cleaning tolerance: With three meals a day plus overnight cleaning, the table tops needed to withstand repeated wiping with disinfectants and detergents without delaminating, blistering or absorbing stains.
- Steel frame structural stability: Given the heavy foot traffic in long-row bench configurations, the furniture had to resist wobbling and shifting, with connectors able to withstand sustained lateral pressure.
- Tight installation window: Only a little over a month was available from scheme confirmation to completed on-site installation, requiring production and logistics to be closely coordinated with the tail end of building work.
Specification and solution
- Easy-clean tops with steel frames: We supplied integrally formed stain-resistant table tops paired with thickened cold-rolled steel frames. Table top edges were rounded to reduce cleaning blind spots.
- Long-row bench configuration: Based on the canteen's column spacing and aisle widths, four-seat and six-seat long-row combinations were used, with anchor bolt fixing points reserved in the floor.
- Pre-assembled structural components: Frames were pre-assembled and hole positions calibrated at the factory, leaving only positioning, fixing and table top placement on site, which reduced high-temperature summer working time.
Delivery and outcome
- Quantity delivered: Over 160 long-row table and bench combinations were delivered, corresponding to approximately 650 dining seats in a single section.
- Stability spot checks: Lateral force was applied to 30 randomly selected seats. Frame displacement measured under 2 mm in all cases, with no loose connectors.
Client feedback: After two weeks of use since the start of term, table cleaning is quick, the benches do not wobble, and nothing shifts even during peak periods with students moving around.
