Présentation du projet

Background

This is a classic French brasserie in Lyon, with an interior defined by mirrored panels, upholstered banquettes and warm brass detailing. In 2024 the dining area was renovated, requiring a full replacement of commercial dining tables and chairs consistent with the existing décor. The space covers approximately 120 square metres and seats 58.

Requirements and challenges

  • Dimensions and aisle clearance: Table widths needed to fall between 700 and 800 mm, ensuring a service aisle of no less than 450 mm between the banquettes and the mirrored walls.
  • Durability: Table tops had to withstand red wine, coffee and cleaning agents. Leg-to-top connections needed to cope with high table turnover and slightly uneven flooring typical of a brasserie.
  • Style consistency: The timber tone had to sit close to the existing brass and mirror elements, without leaning too red or too yellow. Physical colour samples were required for approval before production.

Specification and solution

  • Solid timber tops with bentwood chairs: White oak tops with a matt open-pore finish were paired with bentwood dining chairs, the curve of the chair backs echoing the lines of the banquettes.
  • Metal leg connectors: Adjustable metal feet were fitted at the leg-to-top connections to address uneven flooring in the old Lyon building and prevent table wobble.
  • Selection from in-stock ranges: We selected 3 solid timber ranges from 35 in-stock dining table models, pairing 600, 700 and 750 mm diameter round tables with one 800 mm square table across the dining zones.

Delivery and outcome

  • Quantity: A total of 14 solid timber dining tables and 58 bentwood chairs were delivered.
  • On-site inspection: Table top level deviation was kept within 1.5 mm. All chairs passed static load testing at 130 kg without cracking.
  • Fit and finish: The timber tone showed no colour clash with the brass detailing under 3000K lighting. Measured aisle widths were maintained at 460 to 480 mm.

Client feedback: After several months of use, the table tops show no visible water marks or scratches. Guests find the chairs comfortable, and the timber pairs naturally with the mirrors and brass in the room.
