Présentation du projet
Background
The venue is a large exhibition and trade show hall in the core area of Las Vegas, with main hall clear height exceeding 14 metres and an industrial-grade uniform lighting system overhead. It regularly hosts trade shows with attendance in the tens of thousands. In early 2023, the operator initiated a seating upgrade, requiring rows of chairs for the open main hall that could be set up and cleared quickly for opening ceremonies, forums and temporary viewing areas.
Requirements and challenges
- Rapid set-up and removal between frequent changeovers: With only 4 to 6 hours between the end of one event and the start of the next fit-out, chairs had to support fast manual stacking, transport and re-layout.
- Visual consistency under high industrial lighting: The hall's lighting is bright and even. Standard gloss-finished chairs would produce large reflective areas, so surface gloss had to be controlled.
- Stacking stability in dense configurations: Vertical storage space is limited, so chairs needed to stack safely to 12 layers under full load, with no permanent deformation at the base.
Specification and solution
- Neutral grey one-piece injection-moulded polypropylene chair: PP copolymer with a matte, textured seat surface. No visible reflective band under strong overhead lighting, and the grey works as a unified layer against the hall's off-white floor.
- Dual steel tube reinforcement, front and rear: Shaped steel tubes are embedded in the leg structure. Positioning lugs on the frame interlock during stacking to prevent lateral movement.
- Anti-slip foot pads and drainage channel: Four feet fitted with TPE pads. A narrow drainage groove at the rear edge of the seat handles drink spills and cleaning washdowns during exhibitions.
Delivery and outcome
- 2,400 stackable chairs delivered in two batches.
- All units passed a 72-hour full-load stack test at 12 layers, with bottom-leg deformation under 0.3 mm.
- Unit weight held at 4.2 kg. Two workers can collect and return a standard 200-unit storage module in 25 minutes.
Client feedback: The chairs stack solidly, the grey surface doesn't reflect, and the crew find them noticeably lighter to move during changeovers than the previous batch.
