Project overview
Background
A manufacturing enterprise in Wuxi renovated its staff changing room in 2018. The space has light-coloured tiled floors and high-output overhead fluorescent lighting, giving it a bright, clean appearance. The room measures approximately 90 square metres and needed to accommodate storage and changing for over 110 employees across two shifts. Initial discussions began in June of that year.
Requirements and challenges
- Numbered allocation by shift group: Each door required a clear, individual number so lockers could be assigned by shift and by person, preventing mixed use or informal claiming. The numbering had to withstand routine wiping.
- Stable bench seating between locker banks: Full-length benches were specified between the two locker runs. Staff sit and step on them frequently when changing clothes and footwear, so the structure needed to resist wobbling and shifting.
- Floor protection and dimensional control: The tiled floor was already finished, so units had to be brought in without dragging or scratching. Locker depth also had to be controlled to keep the central aisle no narrower than 1.5 metres.
Specification and solution
- Double-row, back-to-back layout: We selected the standard-depth model from two steel locker ranges in our catalogue. Each row holds 14 doors; four rows totalling 56 doors were installed facing each other along opposite walls.
- Freestanding steel benches between locker rows: Benches are separate from the locker bodies, with a 350 mm seat width and anti-slip feet. They do not rely on the lockers for structural support.
- Screen-printed door numbering: Numbers are printed directly on the upper right corner of each door panel, paired with standard keyed locks. Reassigning lockers between shift groups only requires updating the allocation sheet, not changing lock cylinders.
Delivery and outcome
- All 56 doors were installed, comprising four 14-door locker rows and three bench units.
- The central aisle measured 1.55 metres after installation, allowing two people to pass while changing without interference. Fully opened doors do not obstruct movement on the opposite side.
- Screen-printed numbers passed adhesion testing, withstanding 50 wipes using a cloth with cleaning agent and showing no wear.
Client feedback: No scratches on the floor after installation, the numbering is clear, and workers find their lockers much faster at shift change.
