Project overview
Background
A boutique hotel in Sydney commenced a guest room bedding upgrade in 2018, starting with standard room floors. The rooms feature neutral tones and large windows with ample daylight. Bedding is required to appear neat and crisp, and mattresses must deliver consistent comfort for guests while withstanding long-term commercial use.
Requirements and challenges
- High standard of bed flatness: Room proportions and window-side lighting make wrinkles and sagging on the bed surface readily visible, requiring careful control of visual flatness after installation.
- Stable layered construction: The mattress uses a layered design. The upper comfort layer and lower support core must not shift or collapse at the edges over extended use.
- Tight cross-border delivery schedule: Production and arrival in Sydney had to align with the hotel's soft-opening timetable. Packaging needed to withstand sea freight and local handling conditions.
Specification and solution
- Two existing mattress models selected: Based on differences between king and twin room types, medium-firm and medium-soft support specifications were assigned respectively.
- High-density linen mattress topper added: A high-density linen topper was specified to reduce wrinkling and maintain a neat bed surface after turndown service.
- Reinforced edge construction: Both models feature high-density perimeter foam encasement to reduce edge collapse and deformation from guests sitting on the bed edge.
Delivery and outcome
- First phase covered 14 guest rooms: Mattresses were installed across king and twin room types, 14 rooms in total, all passing inspection on first attempt.
- No sagging reported during trial sleep checks: Bed surface flatness remained stable, with no edge collapse or layer shifting observed.
Client feedback: The beds look clean and crisp. After two weeks of trial stays, no guests reported comfort issues, and housekeeping finds them easy to maintain.
