Project overview
Background
A newly built modern stadium grandstand in Qingdao entered the internal fit-out stage in 2020. The stand was constructed with raked concrete terraces, with spectator seating directly facing the pitch and clear sightlines throughout. The operator needed all seating installed before the start of the season. The scope involved continuous rows of blue and white seating arranged in colour-coded sections, with an overall delivery schedule that allowed little margin for delay.
Requirements and challenges
- Concrete substrate tolerance: The raked concrete terraces showed minor local deviations in surface evenness. Bolt hole positions had to be verified on site to prevent seats from being fixed out of alignment or with visible height discrepancies.
- Consistency across continuous rows: The blue and white seats had to be installed in continuous rows by section, with uniform spacing between adjacent seats and consistent row depths to maintain a clean overall visual line.
- Outdoor weathering and maintenance costs: Qingdao's coastal air carries high humidity and salt spray. Metal fasteners and seat bodies needed adequate corrosion resistance and anti-ageing properties to reduce long-term maintenance frequency.
Specification and solution
- Bolt-down stadium seats selected: From our range of seven stadium chair models, we specified a bolt-down type suited to concrete bases. Each seat was fixed to the terrace structure using cast-in or post-installed anchors, providing stable resistance to tipping.
- Blue and white sectional layout: Seats were installed in alternating blue and white rows according to the venue's section plan. Back and seat pan colours were kept uniform within each row, making it easier for spectators to locate their section.
- Corrosion-resistant fasteners and UV-stable materials: All exposed bolts and washers received an anti-corrosion surface treatment. Seat bodies were produced from UV-stabilised modified material suitable for prolonged outdoor exposure in a coastal environment.
Delivery and outcome
- Quantity installed: Over 1,200 seats were installed, covering all designated areas of the grandstand. The blue and white sectional layout matched the design drawings.
- Levelling and stability: Seat level and bolt torque were checked row by row. Lateral height deviation between adjacent seats was kept within 3 mm, with no loose fixing points.
- Visual consistency: Once installed in continuous rows, the blue and white boundary lines were clearly defined, row depths were uniform, and the overall appearance of the stand met the venue operator's expectations.
Client feedback: The rows look very straight after installation, and the bolt fixings are solid. During acceptance we found no noticeable wobble or misalignment. The overall result is satisfactory.
