Background

A large convention centre in Manila began a seating upgrade for its main hall in 2023. The hall hosts conferences, ceremonies and exhibitions throughout the year, with single events frequently exceeding 1,000 attendees. The operator needed to complete full seating replacement and arrangement before the new year's peak event season, to improve audience seating comfort and reduce turnaround time between different events.

Requirements and challenges

• Frequent turnaround and fast reset: The main hall accommodates multiple events with different layouts each week. Seating needed to be fully set up or cleared within 30 to 45 minutes, without requiring excessive manpower.
• Comfort for extended sitting: Individual conferences or ceremonies often run over two hours. Hard-surface seats cause fatigue, so padding was required without significantly increasing the weight of each chair.
• Row alignment and stability: Long straight rows needed consistent spacing between chairs, with no tilting or wobbling. The floor is a standard hard surface and could not be damaged.

Specification and solution

• Padded folding chairs, layout-first: We supplied folding chairs with PU-padded seats. The backrest and seat support structure are consistent, allowing quick alignment in long straight rows.
• Steel frame suited to high-frequency handling: The chair frame uses thickened steel tubing and non-slip foot pads. Opening and closing is smooth, and the frame withstands repeated daily unfolding and stacking without deformation.
• Quantity matched to main hall capacity: Based on the hall's usable area and aisle requirements, the quantity was calculated at standard row spacing. No excessive over-specification was made, keeping inventory and on-site turnaround volume reasonable.

Delivery and outcome

• Single hall configuration supports over 1,800 people: The delivered quantity was calculated for full-capacity layout in the main hall, meeting the complete seating requirements of large conferences and ceremonies.
• Row alignment deviation controlled within 15 mm: On-site spot checks of long straight rows confirmed consistent seat height and front-to-back spacing, with no visible skewing or misalignment.

Client feedback: The chairs set up quickly and clear quickly. Event turnaround now takes nearly half the staff compared with before.
