Adjustable School Desk Installation for a Jinan Middle School Classroom

Project overview

Background

Before the autumn 2023 semester, a public middle school in Jinan replaced the desks and chairs in its standard classrooms. The classroom is a regular rectangular layout, with desks arranged in rows facing a large teaching board, and each room accommodates a standard class size. The project was completed during the summer break to ensure the rooms were ready for the start of term.

Requirements and challenges

• Reliable height adjustment: With significant height differences among middle school students, the desks needed multi-level height adjustment. The adjustment mechanism had to remain free of loosening or creaking under frequent use.
• Durable, easy-to-maintain desktop: The surface had to withstand daily writing and cleaning with standard detergents, without delaminating or blistering from moisture or temperature changes. Edge banding had to stay firmly attached.
• Steel frame load and stability: Students often hang school bags on the side of the desk or place them underneath. The steel frame had to bear daily leaning, pushing and pulling without the desk wobbling or deforming.

Specification and solution

• Adjustable steel frame: We used an existing height-adjustable student desk model. The legs are formed from cold-rolled steel plate, and the adjustment points are secured with lock nuts to prevent loosening in daily use.
• Beech-effect desktop: The desktop substrate is high-density board, laminated with a beech-effect melamine surface and PVC edge banding on all four sides. It resists scratching and is easy to clean.
• Row layout compatibility: The desktop dimensions and leg span were checked against the standard classroom layout. Front-to-back spacing allows for writing and passage, and does not obstruct sightlines to the board.

Delivery and outcome

• Full class quantity delivered: Desks were configured and installed for a full class complement, with each desk numbered to match the classroom seating plan.
• Completed over the summer: Including removal of old furniture, installation, adjustment, cleaning and handover.
• Spot checks found no loosening or creaking: Before handover, adjustment mechanisms and frame connections were spot-checked row by row. After repeated raising and lowering tests, there was no loosening, no creaking and no paint loss.

Client feedback: Height adjustment is convenient, the desktops are easy to wipe clean, and there have been no issues since the start of term.
