Project overview
Background
A corporate headquarters in Chengdu brought a newly fitted office floor into use in 2025. The space is defined by pale wood partitions and large windows, with ample natural light. The floor was planned as an open-plan office area, requiring desks and chairs arranged in neat work groups that would sit well against the pale wood surroundings while meeting everyday demands for durability and comfort.
Requirements and challenges
- Dimensions and workstation fit: Workstation spacing in the open area was already fixed. Desk and chair dimensions had to stay within a controlled range to avoid narrowing the walkways, while ensuring chair backs did not knock against adjacent workstations.
- Material and tone coordination: The pale wood partitions and large windows make the space bright. Furniture finishes could not be too dark or highly reflective, so matte or low-saturation surfaces were required.
- Tight delivery schedule: Furniture had to be moved in and positioned shortly after the floor fit-out was completed, requiring phased arrivals, same-day assembly, and same-day placement.
Specification and solution
- Light-toned desktops: From 10 models in the current range, 1 light grey desk was selected. Edges are rounded, providing a natural visual transition against the pale wood partitions.
- Matching mid-back chairs from the same series: 1 mid-back chair from the same series was selected. The seat and backrest use breathable mesh to reduce afternoon heat build-up near the large windows.
- Grouped layout with preserved walkways: Workstations were arranged in groups of 4 to 6. Original walkway widths between groups were kept, and desks were uniformly oriented toward the windows to reduce screen glare.
Delivery and outcome
- 86 workstations fitted: 2 product models were used to complete 86 desk and chair sets, all from the current range, so future replenishment orders can use the same specifications directly.
- First inspection passed: Desk and chair dimensions, colour, and stability all passed the client's acceptance check, with no rework or replacements required.
Client feedback: The floor looks tidy after the furniture was placed. Staff have used the chairs for a week without comfort complaints, and the walkways remain wide.
