Background

A community hall in Cairo is used for local gatherings and routine activities. The interior is simply finished, with high windows along the side walls providing ample natural light. In 2021, the community planned to add seating in fixed rows, balancing daily storage needs with quick clearance for events. The usable area accommodates approximately 100 people.

Requirements and challenges

Frequent stacking and storage: Activities change frequently, so chairs must be stacked quickly after each event. Single-unit stacking must be stable, with no slipping or damage to seat surfaces.
Floor and lighting compatibility: The hall has standard hard flooring. Under strong light from high windows, the white and grey combination must avoid visual clutter and keep row alignment neat.
Durability in a simple interior: The hall has no air conditioning. Cairo's dry, hot climate means plastic components must withstand temperature variation without visible deformation or fading.

Specification and solution

White and grey moulded plastic chairs: A white shell with grey seat was selected. In rows, the colour combination reads as uniform, avoids glare under high-window light, and keeps row boundaries clear.
Optimised stacking structure: The leg bases and seat backs are designed with stacking limiters. Stacked units remain stable, with 8 to 10 chairs per stack for wall-side temporary storage.
Base model selected from 5 in-stock options: A basic stacking model was chosen from the existing plastic chair range, without armrests or writing tablets, to reduce aisle obstruction and suit tight row layouts.

Delivery and outcome

Quantity: 160 plastic chairs were delivered, arranged as 8 rows of 20.
Stacking and clearance efficiency: One person can stack a full row of 20 chairs in under 6 minutes. Setup and clearance time before and after events has been significantly reduced.
Performance in testing: Over three consecutive weeks with 3 or more uses per week, no stack slippage, seat cracking or visible colour variation occurred. Row alignment remained intact.

Client feedback: The chairs are light to carry and stable when stacked. The white and grey colours look tidy in the hall, and clearing up before and after events is much faster than before.
