Background

A design hotel in Berlin carried out a furniture refresh of its breakfast area in 2024. The space features terrazzo flooring, multiple small breakfast tables, tall windows for natural light, and an overall muted palette. The hotel needed to replace its existing dining chairs with models that offered a clean appearance, structural stability, and long-term compatibility with the existing interior.

Requirements and challenges

Size fit for compact table settings Most small breakfast tables measured 70–80 cm in diameter, requiring strict control over seat width and leg splay angle to prevent chairs catching on table legs or neighbouring seats when guests stood up.
Clear floor protection requirements The terrazzo floor could not tolerate metal scratches. Chair feet had to use non-metal materials while withstanding the daily wear of frequent pushing and pulling.
Tone and material match The space used a low-saturation colour scheme. Chair colour could not stand out, and shell surfaces needed to resist short-term exposure to coffee, juice and other common breakfast liquids.

Specification and solution

Moulded shell with wooden dowel legs We specified the classic moulded shell configuration with round wooden dowel legs. The shell curvature supports a natural seated posture, and the wooden legs echo existing timber elements in the interior.
Mid-grey low-saturation shell From 21 standard models, we selected a mid-grey shell to avoid bright colours disrupting the overall atmosphere. The shell surface received an easy-clean treatment.
Non-slip foot sleeves fitted to all legs Transparent anti-slip pads were fitted to the base of all four legs, making direct contact with the terrazzo floor to reduce scratch risk and lower dragging noise.

Delivery and outcome

22 chairs delivered on schedule Covering 11 two-person breakfast tables, with 2 chairs per table. Quantity matched the table layout exactly.
On-site spot checks all passed The hotel's engineering team verified foot pad adhesion, shell surface stain resistance and four-leg floor contact stability.

Client feedback: The chair colour suits the breakfast area well, there is no noise when they are moved, and the floor shows no scratches.
